The “Sea Tomb” memorial is a conceptual funerary architecture that offers a powerful and meditative journey through three symbolic moments. Inspired by the image of the demolished Palmyra towers, the structure serves as a podium to honor the lost lives of refugees. The experience begins with the warmth of sunlight reflecting off light limestone, symbolizing hope. Visitors then move through a dark, narrow path that evokes the perilous journey of refugees crossing the sea. The final moment offers a bright, hopeful view from a rooftop, symbolizing a new beginning. The design features 12 funeral steles inscribed with “a person,” honoring those who perished in search of safety. Crafted from light limestone, floating wood, and black concrete, the memorial immerses visitors in the emotional essence of the refugees’ experience—instability, darkness, and the pursuit of hope.
